Helping Organizations Participate Effectively (HOPE)

Purpose Statement:

  • ENGAGE in opportunities for groups to grow in faith and relationships as sisters in Christ.
  • ENCOURAGE participation in events and activities that meet the needs of each group.
  • EQUIP groups by providing resources that connect women with the mission and ministry of the LWML.
  • ENJOY the benefits of Serving the Lord with Gladness!

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League has a 75-year history and part of that history is the LWML Pledge which reminds us of our reasons for being in mission and our pledge of commitment to our Lord. Use this responsive reading to reaffirm your groups’ commitment.
LWML Pledge — Responsive Reading

Even very young women know LWML is not a secret club! Check out what these two young women have to say at their own tea party.

Women in Mission University (WMU) is a tool to educate all people about the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, written and prepared by the LWML HOPE (Helping Organizations Participate Effectively) Committee. It consists of four sections that can be used individually in separate events, or all or some of the sections may be used together as a one-day event.

Using WMU is an ideal way to introduce LWML to LCMS women in your congregation, zone, or district who are not yet participating in the mission of the LWML. It’s also useful as a refresher for women who are already involved.

Each of the sections contain a PowerPoint and other helps.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer (Romans 12:12).

JUNE 2017

Try This Group Icebreaker:
Who has your heart? (Preparation required: see page 17 of the 2015-17 reSources for Planning Programs.) Cut out one heart for every two people in advance. Cut each heart in half using different lines (zig-zag, wavy, etc.) so they make a puzzle. When the women arrive give them each a heart puzzle piece. During the icebreaker time have them find the other half of their heart. Share with that person something special about someone you love.

JUNE HOPEful Hint:
Do you use the Quarterly archives for Bible studies and articles?  There is no such thing as an old Bible study. Topics from several years ago still have relevance because God’s Word always hold a lesson for us! Check out this link to the 2006 Winter LWQ Bible study, “What God Sees… My Heart.”
