Faithful to His Word
The Task-Filled Life Bible Study — Week 4, Day 1
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105).
Life can sometimes wreak havoc on our hearts and minds. Decisions to be made are often unbearable, especially when they involve other individuals. We flip through the pages of Scripture, hoping to find an answer – that “yes” or “no” that we need. We wonder why God isn’t pointing to the solution for our problems. We wish we could randomly point to the right verse. In vain, we shout, “Where are You, God? Why aren’t you helping me out here?”
Solutions for problems or decisions are never easy, but the source of strength, courage, and patience remains. God’s Word was not meant to be a book of immediate solutions. Rather, it is a living book, ready to touch the heart in ways that no man can. Fresh from the heart of God, the Word remains true and faithful in its effect. Though written many years ago, the Holy Spirit uses it to spiritually polish us, refine us, and reform us – and not because it is just another book written in history, but because of God’s promise that His Word will be exactly what we need, when we need it.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
When searching for an end to the rambling mind and the endless inner chatter, God desires that we not seek solutions but the Savior. The purpose for the precious Word of God is that we might grow in our love of the perfect Word, Jesus Christ. From the words In the beginning in Genesis 1:1 to the fullness of those words in John 1:1, our eyes are opened to the truth God wanted us to see, namely that Jesus Christ was the hope of the past and that He is still the hope for us today.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:1, 14).
Christ is the same today and tomorrow and forever. He became sin for us on the cross and knows our weaknesses and our doubts. He offers us His very own comfort and strength. His love knows no comparison. In His time and way, we will see His glory, a glory that is full of grace and truth.
Prayer: Dear Father, my decisions today leave me with endless questions. Help me to first seek Christ in Your Word. You will guide me to the solutions in Your time and way. Amen.
