Convention Central Issue #2

LWML Kansas, LWML Montana, and LWML Atlantic Districts are next in line for Convention Season of 2018.  Here are their recaps and highlights:

LWML Kansas District

nullThe Atrium Hotel and Convention Center, Hutchinson, KS, was the site of the LWML Kansas District Convention, April 20–22. Those in attendance were enlightened by the theme and verse of the convention, “Beautiful Feet,” based on Isaiah 52:7, How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says Zion, ‘Your God reigns’. The district celebrated 75 years of serving our Lord in missions! Included in the celebration was the legacy of the Ark Valley Circuit, where Lutheran women began meeting as a group in 1940. Even Katie Luther appeared to join the celebration. LWML Kansas District President Brenda Piester called her first convention to order following the opening worship service. The beautiful feet of the participants brought many ingathering items supporting a local Christian soup kitchen, the food pantry at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, eyeglasses for MOST Ministries, trimmed stamps for the Texas Stamporee project, and materials for the Lutheran Laymen’s League booth at the 2018 Kansas State Fair. Attendees at the 75th Anniversary Banquet were entertained by Jan Struck. Carol von Soosten, Strategic Plan Facilitator and LWML representative commented that it was such a blessing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the LWML Kansas District along with over 370 men and women, including 35 first-timers and 14 enthusiastic Young Woman Representatives.null

LWML Montana District

null“Every Tongue Confess,” was the theme based on Philippians 2:11, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The women and men of the LWML Montana District, totaling 122, convened in convention in Missoula, MT, at First Lutheran Church, in song, fellowship, Bible Study, listening to mission speakers, LWML hugs, and much more. LWML Montana District President Shari Miller skillfully called her first LWML Montana District Convention to order on April 20, 2018. The goal of the attendees was to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, through Word and Sacrament; confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and share the Good News of salvation through Jesus in their communities, their country, and into the world. The convention participants were encouraged through worship and Bible Study rejoiced in the mission opportunities God provided were equipped to share His message of salvation, and celebrated God’s faithfulness while serving the Lord with gladness. null Representing the LWML, Vice President of Communication Char Kroemer said that it was a joy and privilege to attend the LWML Montana District’s 38th convention where the theme was evident throughout all events including the Servant Activity of making heart-shaped pillows. Char was delighted to share in this celebration of 75 blessed years of Lutheran Women in Mission.

LWML Atlantic District

nullRefreshing smiles from the convention hostesses, ladies of the Nassau and Suffolk Zones, warmly greeted those attending the 23rd Biennial Convention of the LWML Atlantic District. Comfort dogs, Maggie and Lilly were also very welcoming and enjoyed by all. The worship service marked the opening of the convention held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Suffern, NY, on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The attendees brought ingathering items for the Center for Safety & Change. The theme and Bible verse of the convention was, “Ask, Seek, Knock,” from Matthew 7:7, Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Well-loved and respected Atlantic District President Lillian L. Biddle, led the delegates in adopting 13 mission grants, totaling $77,000, and electing officers for the new biennium. Linda Guteres will serve as the newly elected LWML Atlantic District President. LWML Representative, Ginger Starrett, Recording Secretary brought inspiring greetings; and she herself was encouraged by these Young Woman Representatives and many first-timers.
