Engage and Encourage

Two Minute Tuesday

And the King will answer them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40).

We are told that we should serve as Jesus’ hands and feet to help others and share the love of Christ and the Good News of the Gospel. As LWML women, we are very familiar with these words as they are in our LWML Pledge – “We consecrate to our Savior our hands to work for Him, our feet to go on His errands.”  During this Lenten season, identify someone you can help who has experienced a personal loss perhaps through a natural disaster, who is struggling with life, or just needs a helping hand. A card (include a Mustard Seed Devotion), LWML devotion book, meal, or listening to their story goes a long way to show people that others care about them.  You will be a blessing to them with your actions. You will also be blessed by giving of yourself. Who can you engage with and encourage today?

The Family of Christ

Two Minute Tuesday

The family of Christ. The phrase brings to mind relationships, love, care, respect, encouragement, and support. We are God’s unique and special children, sisters and brothers in Christ! Our Father in heaven lovingly and tenderly nurtures our faith in Jesus and empowers us by the Holy Spirit to use our talents and abilities to His glory and in joyful service to Him.

Identify a special woman in whose life you can make a meaningful difference. The time is now to share your faith with her, encourage her, and show her that she is a valued child of God. Involve her in activities where she can meet other Lutheran Women in Mission in the family of Christ. Invite her to study the Bible with you and pray with you. Imagine and implement creative ways to mentor your sister in Christ, so she can use her unique talents and abilities to God’s glory.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:17).

We Don't Work Alone!

Two Minute Tuesday

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:1-2).

As leaders, we have all been given the privilege of spreading the love of Jesus Christ and His salvation message throughout the world. If you’re like me, you feel inadequate to perform this task.

Guess what? We are!

But remember! We don’t work alone!

Jesus Christ walks with us in all we do. Ask Him to go before you and push aside all distractions. Ask Him to help you focus and clearly mark the path He has chosen for you. Sit at the feet of the gifted, well-seasoned members of LWML and learn from them as you walk in His love.

May we all clearly focus on Jesus Christ and His will for our lives. May we have the wisdom and strength needed to put priorities in order. And may His hand be upon us as we continue to spread His Word and message of love and mercy throughout the world.

J-O-Y, not y-o-j!

Two Minute Tuesday

“J-O-Y, not y-o-j!” This phrase centers on living each day focusing on Jesus first, others second, and you [ourselves] last, not the other way around. It puts God’s (not my) order in place.

Being involved in LWML, sharing Jesus’ joy through communication … is my face pleasant when I greet others? Do I even greet others or just pass them by? Is my reaction to life and living given in a negative or a positive? If I’m negative, I’m usually focused on what a situation did to me … not asking Jesus for the lesson learned or putting others ahead of myself. In other words, do I live each day with an attitude of gratitude … that’s God’s plan, that’s “J-O-Y, not y-o-j”.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (Galatians 5:22).

The Time is NOW! I pray you celebrate J-O-Y every day, as you share God’s blessings through all you do and say.

Share a Sweet Experience

Two Minute Tuesday

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth” (Psalm 119:103).

When our group decided to host an event for the women in our congregation, we wanted to invite all the women. Invitations were sent to each woman and her daughters. We planned a devotion, activity, delicious snacks, and time to reflect on the importance of spending time reading God’s Word.  When the time came for the event, we were overjoyed at the number of women who came.  However, the six teens who came with their mom or grandma was the highlight of the night.  God allowed us to be His lips and voice as we shared various ways to be “in the Word”.

To God be the glory!

Variety is the Spice of Life

Two Minute Tuesday

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him (Psalm 34:8 NIV).

Each new day may bring us joy, surprises or disappointment. What will today bring? A popular proverb assures us “Variety is the spice of life”! It is amazing how many people have a routine for each day, Monday — laundry, Tuesday — grocery shopping and so on. They rarely change their routine. Try something new today! Maybe a new flavor coffee at the coffee shop or surprise a waitress by ordering something different and leave a Mustard Seed with her tip! Visit a friend or send them a card from the LWML Catalog. Even though our days may seem routine we know that God is a constant in our life. We can always count on Him to get us through the unexpected that happens in our lives. We know that an amazing peace comes from the saving knowledge of the assurance of God’s grace and forgiveness!

Dear Lord,
We ask that you be with us as we try to step out of our comfort zone to try something new.  Make us your witness to everyone we meet.  In Your Name, we pray. Amen

Be That Somebody

Two Minute Tuesday

A young woman, living in her parents’ home, entered church seeming to be alone. No one met her with a friendly smile, gave her a hug, or welcomed her by name. How sad! She had been worshipping there all her life, but hadn’t found her comfort zone.

Somebody should reach out to welcome her. Who will be that somebody?

Be that somebody creating a friendly environment, encouraging her to use her God given talents. When God tugs on your heart to be that somebody, respond to God’s urging.

Lord, help me encourage women in relationships as sisters in Christ. Make me brave to act, and gracious to serve in all circumstances. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
