Want your pastor to be more involved with LWML?

Two Minute Tuesday

Want your pastor to be more involved with LWML? I know members of LWML love their pastors, want to support them and have their support as well. I also know that a pastor’s time is finite, and he has to choose wisely how he uses it. If an organization seems to be running smoothly without him, he may think it best to leave it alone!

Show love and kindness and support to your pastor. Send him notes of encouragement. Find ways to help him in his ministry among you. Invite him to be part of your society. Share some of the projects LWML supports locally and through Mission Grants. And when he does attend a society meeting or function, make sure you let him know how much you appreciate his presence and support. Your contagious joy in sharing Jesus will shine through.

Reconstruction – Work in Progress

Two Minute Tuesday

Tap, tap, tap. It started with woodpeckers. BANG! BANG! This week it's the noise of reconstruction, repairing the damage done by woodpeckers to the chimney. Next, painters will paint the entire house. Reconstruction is not always pleasant, but results with a new fresh look.

When things are getting a little dull and participation is waning, it may be time to think about "reconstruction" in our LWML group. Trying something new — a different venue and activity might increase interest. Gather in a park for a Bible study. Ask women to pack a picnic lunch, invite some friends, and enjoy God's creation.

Need more fresh ideas?  Go to www.lwml.org/mission-servants for a monthly service idea. Many free downloads are also available at www.lwml.org/developing-leaders.

Heart to Heart Sisters

Two Minute Tuesday

The beauty of the Heart to Heart Sisters program of the LWML is that it provides an avenue for women from ethnic congregations to actively participate in the activities and mission of the LWML. Many H2H women come from other countries or ethnic communities, and they enrich the LWML as they share their life stories, ideas, and the ways that they witness to their faith, as they serve in their churches and communities.

Did you know that you can support the H2H Sisters program by helping to identify women leaders from multicultural congregations who can participate in H2H programs in your district and at the Albuquerque convention next summer? Perhaps your LWML can contribute to support H2H women, for whom this truly will be a life-changing experience.

Really Listening

Two Minute Tuesday

The green-eyed three year old bubbled over with words but Mama firmly told her to "wait her turn" to speak. At the next pause, she jumped in with her thoughts.

As children we learn such conversation etiquette that carries into our adult exchanges. However, this pattern often leads us to focus more on what we are waiting to say than the ideas shared by the speaker.

One strategy that works well for me is listening closely so that I might pose questions or offer thoughtful comments. Listening for understanding wordlessly conveys the worth of the speaker and affirms their value in the eyes of God.

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger (James 1:19).

The Power of an Invitation

Two Minute Tuesday

What’s the power of inviting someone to visit your LWML society … and join your group? It’s powerful!

When I was a newlywed living in a small town, not working outside the home, an elderly neighbor across the street invited me to accompany her to Ladies Aid (LWML). (Our age difference didn’t matter to her!) I attended and joined the group!

We moved and joined another congregation. I was an employed busy wife and mother. Several women often asked me to attend their monthly society meetings. I did.

I felt comfortable and joined the local society. It would not have happened without the encouragement of others. What a blessing LWML has been!

Women in your congregation are “watching.” They may just need to be invited to attend/join your LWML group! Just ask!

Let’s encourage more women to be part of the Word, Missions, Service, and Fellowship that LWML offers!

Spring is just around the corner

Two Minute Tuesday

“Spring is just around the corner.” How many times have we heard this phrase as we wait for new growth to appear or the chill to leave the air?

LWML District Conventions are also just around the corner.

Mission minded, fun-loving women will be attending. Their desire is to study God’s Word through Bible study and to share the Gospel through prayer and the selection of mission grants. They are also prayer warriors for each other, blessed in their friendships.

Many women in our churches desire this too. Grasp this opportunity and invite someone to experience LWML activities in your congregation and at your convention.

Dear Sisters … the time is NOW.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us (2 Cor. 5:20 NIV).

Survival Kit for the New Year

Two Minute Tuesday

Years ago I received items in a ziplock plastic bag with the title, “Survival Kit for the New Year.” Inside, messages of hope were attached to small items as reminders to refocus each day. Here’s an adjusted electronic version with reminders for Lutheran Women in Mission in 2016.

null

Toothpick … Pick the good qualities in everyone, including yourself.

Rubber band … Be flexible. Things might not go the way you want, but God’s “got this”

Band-Aid … Heal hurt feelings, either yours or someone else's.

Eraser … Everyone makes mistakes and we learn and grow through them. survi

Candy Kiss … Everyone needs a hug, a compliment, or a smile. Share one of yours!

Mint … You are worth a mint to your Father in Heaven.

Bubble Gum … Stick with it. God isn’t done with you yet!

Pencil … List your blessings every day.

Tea Bag … Take time to relax daily, go over that list of blessings, and share the love of our Lord with those around you.
