Faithful Through His Presence
The Task-Filled Life Bible Study — Week 4, Day 4
By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God (1 John 4:13-15).
“Nancy’s nephew was four when she was pregnant with her first child. She allowed him to place his hand on her belly and feel the baby kick. His little face scrunched and said, ‘How does the baby get out of there?’
She wanted to keep it simple so she said, ‘The doctor will help.’
His eyes widened in amazement as he exclaimed, ‘You’ve got a doctor in there, too?’” (www.gcfl.net)
Feeling the activity of the Holy Spirit within us is not something we can experience noticeably, like having a physical doctor within. In fact, basing our decisions on feelings can be deceiving. However, one aspect of God’s presence is the peace that is a constant in our daily walk with Him. Even in troubled times, His perfect peace reigns and His faithfulness is understood.
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock (Isaiah 26:3).
God’s presence provides peace. Because He is faithful to His Word, His Name, and His redeemed, true peace is a gift that only He can grant. It isn’t acquired through our jobs, our positions, or as a result of creating our perfect families. It is received and available through the Lord’s presence within us, granted upon our Baptism. Inner peace is His work, no matter the daily “work” we perform every day – that of a homemaker, a nurse, a teacher, an executive, or a factory worker. Because He is faithful to Himself, He will remain faithful to us and the result is His inner peace.
The saying is trustworthy, for:
If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful – for he cannot deny himself (2 Timothy 2:11-13).
Dear Father in heaven, I know through Your Word that You abide in me and will remain faithful to Your presence. For that I am truly grateful. Amen.
