The Task-Filled Life Bible Study — Week 5, Day 2
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:13-14).
When enjoying a cold winter night outside, I love to wrap myself in a soft, warm blanket and sit in front of a fire. There is an amazing sense of coziness and freedom from the cold air closing in around me. The fire itself serves as reminder that no matter the freezing temperatures, I am shielded by the glowing light near me and in the warmth of my snuggly blanket.
This picture can be brought home to us as we consider the life we live in Christ as His baptized children. When insurmountable pressures pile high around us, creating lives that seem to keep us frozen in time, we need a love that will wrap us up tightly. We want to rely on the confidence and knowledge that His power, grace, and mercy are always ours in which to snuggle.
God promises in Scripture that there is such a blanket, a covering from the outside world that provides inner peace. Because of our Baptism, we live in freedom, confirming a love beyond comprehension. Our inadequacies and insecurities become secondary as we grow in the knowledge that, in Him, we are raised to a new life – a life that is victorious and filled with His joy (Romans 6:1-5).
All this is a result of the transference God made within us – not because of anything we have done, but because of His mercy. We now live in the kingdom of God which is an eternal, spiritual possession received only through Christ Himself. It is a kingdom that the Father was pleased to give us (Luke 12:29-32).
May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:11-14).
Let us wrap ourselves in that power, that might, that inheritance. We have been freed from darkness and live in the inherited joy only His Spirit provides.
How great is the love the Father lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God! And that is what we are (1 John 3:1 NIV)!
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for lavishing Your love on me as Your baptized child, for I am now truly Yours. Enable me to live freely in the kingdom of Your Son, Jesus Christ, honoring You in all that I do. For His sake I ask this. Amen.
