A series of short Bible studies with object lessons for use with adults who have intellectual and developmental challenges. 30 sessions. 110 pages. By Diane Grebing.
This set of 30 object lessons are designed to be used with adults with intellectual and developmental challenges. This resource includes the entire lesson plan for a group Bible study, but the individual pieces can be used as time and your program permits. Your group might consider using these object lessons as part of an outing to a group home or as part of the LWML group activities to which you invite these special children of God.
Our Lord Jesus often illustrated His teachings with objects, such as sheep, coins, pearls, and seeds. These everyday objects help people grasp and relate to the important truths of the Bible.
Adults with intellectual and developmental challenges learn in many different ways. Objects that can be seen, heard, touched, and even smelled help stimulate their learning styles and help them better understand the teachings of the Bible. As with all people, these individuals may need different methods to help them understand a truth from the Bible. The object lessons that follow take one object and apply it to a Bible verse or Bible account to help those with intellectual and developmental challenges understand the Bible.

Objectively Speaking — for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Challenges PDF

Note that in your group you may have people who learn and understand on many levels. While some may understand on a very basic level, others will be able to tackle more challenging questions and activities. As you teach your group, you will discover which types of questions your participants can best handle. If a question seems too difficult, take time to answer it, then move on. Remember that the Holy Spirit is working in your heart and mind and in the hearts and minds of your participants as you share the Gospel.
Attention spans in adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can differ greatly.
