First Responder Kit

LWML Toolkits

LWML Toolkits are kit suggestions that you may use for Gifts from the Heart collections in your district, zone, and local groups. Be sure everyone knows where your kits will be donated before you start collecting items. It is suggested that agencies be contacted to make sure they are able to take the kits, if there are items they are not allowed to include, and how many kits they may currently need. Different agencies may also request certain items to better serve their clients. This First Responder Kit list is simply a “jumping off” point to use as you share God’s love and serve the Lord with Gladness.

First Responder Kit

  1. Drawstring bag to contain items
  2. Hand sanitizer
  3. Pocket tissues
  4. Band-Aids
  5. Beef jerky / Slim Jims
  6. Energy bars / granola bars
  7. Trail mix packets
  8. Powdered electrolyte replacement drink mix
  9. Chewing gum / hard candy / mints
  10. Cough drops
  11. A gift card to a local coffee shop
  12. Lip balm
  13. Bottled water
  14. Small spiral memo pad and pen
  15. Sporting event tickets donated by a local major or minor league sports team
  16. Mustard Seeds Simple Trust or Living in Faith from Concordia Publishing House
  17. Note of thanks with indication that you are praying for them

Specific to situations when children are involved:

  1. A small stuffed animal
  2. A small blanket
  3. Coloring book and crayons

Teacher Kit

Teacher Kit

Remember that men teach also! Keep kits gender-neutral when personal care items are included.

  1. Hand sanitizer
  2. Pocket tissues
  3. Band-Aids
  4. Small sized pain reliever (e.g. Tylenol or Advil)
  5. Powdered energy drink mix with caffeine
  6. Energy bars / granola bars
  7. Trail mix packets
  8. Hard candy / mints
  9. Cough drops
  10. Lip balm
  11. Hand cream
  12. Deodorant
  13. Dental floss
  14. Scented candle
  15. Refreshing lotion for feet
  16. An eye mask or neck wrap
  17. Gift card to a local coffee shop
  18. Gift card to a local store where school supplies may be purchased
  19. A mug or small desk plaque with an encouraging Bible verse such as Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

  21. Devotional for teachers, Splashes of Grace from Concordia Publishing House

  1. Baptism birthday card from LWML store
  2. Mustard Seeds Love, Laughter and Lullabies
  3. The devotional booklet Dear Mother
  4. Picture book: God’s Own Child I Dearly Say It by Jonathan Meyer/Gloria Dei Publishing available for purchase on Amazon.com
  5. Create a Baptism banner with the child’s name and baptism birthday
  6. A handprint kit with baptismal theme or a Bible verse
  7. A framed photo from baptismal day
  8. Send Cradle Roll materials as the child grows such as Growing in Christ Nursery Roll packet from Concordia Publishing House (CPH)
  9. A lamb stuffed animal, suitable for babies. Some are available with the song Jesus Loves Me
  10. Purchase Anniversary of Baptism Candle from CPH to light on baby’s baptism birthday
  11. A frame for the Baptism Certificate
  12. Purchase a cross for baby’s room

  7. Popsicles or freeze pops
  8. Visit from child’s friends

Children’s Hospital Kit

  1. Create a card
  2. Memory labels and put in Children’s Bible
  3. Fleece tied blankets
  4. Sleepers and bibs
  5. Coloring book and crayons
  6. Balloons
  7. Sew or donate Teddy Bears

  1. Large print address book filled with family, friends, etc.
  2. Large print calendar with family birthdays (etc.) entered
  3. Stationery/notecards with stamps and return address labels
  4. Playing cards
  5. Large print crossword/Sudoku puzzle books
  6. Light-up magnifier or page magnifier
  7. Hymns of Faith CD from Concordia Publishing House or CD of local church service
  8. Large-print Mustard Seed devotions
  9. Living as a Woman in Mission Mustard Seeds
  10. Homemade heating pads (made with rice)
  11. Personal hygiene items (shampoos, lotions, lip balms)
  12. Bible-themed bookmark/tract.
