The Wonderful Gift of Baptism

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

I was baptized as an infant. I have friends that were baptized as adults, and I even know of people who were baptized on their death bed. Regardless of when a person is baptized, our Lord does promise in the last chapter of Mark “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16a). What a wonderful promise; and what a wonderful day it is when a new child of God is baptized!

LWML has six new Baptism cards. These cards are available as a free download to print and color by you or the recipient. They could be used with a gift or could be a favor given to those attending the baptism. Download your cards here.

LWML 2023 Convention and Whova

The LWML Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the Whova App will be used for the second time at the 2023 Convention!

The Whova App provides information at your fingertips about convention personalities, exhibitors, and the Wisconsin Center. Attendees are able to connect with other attendees before, during, and after the convention. The Whova App is a great way to joyfully equip attendees to honor God by serving others! In Lexington many Whova App users were able to assist other attendees by answering questions or by helping them find a walking partner.

On March 25, 2023, the LWML 2023 Whova App will be published for all convention attendees who have registered and new registrants will be added weekly so they may access the App. To learn more about the Whova App for the LWML Convention, be sure to check out Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) at FAQ — Whova. Turning Points in History

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4).

The Ides of March is the 74th day in the Roman calendar, corresponding to 15 March. It was marked by religious observances and was notable as a deadline for settling debts. In 44 BC, it became notorious as the date of the assassination of Julius Caesar, making the Ides of March a turning point in Roman history. Approximately seventy-five years later, Jerusalem and beyond witnessed another turning point. At the hands of the Romans, Jesus Christ was crucified. His death settled the debts for the sins of the entire human existence.

As we prepare and repent during this season of Lent, we long for Holy Week, remembering THE EVENTS that changed history. Christ rose from the tomb, victorious over death! His resurrection changed the world and the lives of all believers for eternity.

Do You Take Time to Rest?

So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation (Genesis 2:3).

Do you take time to rest? Or is your life hectic day after day? God wants us to rest; He set the example and rested from His work. We are to do the same.

Our grandchildren enjoy doing crafts. On a recent day off from school, we gathered to try our hand at painting flowers. Art galleries are not clamoring for my efforts. Yet it was a very restful, relaxing time. On our LWML website are many craft ideas click here. Use one of them or come up with one of your own and take time to do something fun. Enjoy letting your mind and body relax; invite a friend or family member to rest with you. End your time with devotion and prayer. May your time of relaxation rejuvenate you as you continue to serve Him.

Mission Service — It’s a Thing!

Have you checked out the ideas on this website that you and your friends can implement to reach out to others with Jesus’ love? We call it Mission Service — it’s a thing! But it’s not a noun. We’re talking action — it’s a verb!

The Gospel Outreach Committee provides ideas each month for you to take action and share God’s love right where you are. I like to consider the Mission Service Activity of the Month, and then look back at all the ideas they’ve provided over the previous months. Then I choose what I think would work in my community. This month’s activity is sewing eyeglass cases for MOST Ministries and this is a very good activity for those who love to sew, but I will choose to read and implement the ideas in the Supporting First Responders article.

“Celebrate the Lord of the Nations”

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man (Psalm 33:12–13).

The LWML has been blessed to help spread the Gospel to the nations for over 80 years. As Lutheran Women in Mission, we support missions all over the world. One of the most uplifting things at our conventions is to hear the mission grant recipients share the impact of the grants they received. These are heart-warming and tear-bringing stories that just make you say, “Thank You, Lord, for what You have done through the LWML!”

God’s Valentine to Us

Do you remember giving and receiving Valentine’s cards when you were in grade school? I remember making a mailbox in art class to receive cards from our friends. Construction paper, glue, paper doilies, and markers were used to build a large envelope that would clearly show my name and my creative abilities. At home I filled out cards with the names of my friends that said simple messages like “Be Mine Valentine,” “BFF — Best Friends Forever,” or simply “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

We have a message that has been given to us all — the message of love shared through the words of Scripture. This message is God’s Valentine to Us which is also the title of an LWML single-session Bible study focusing on the loving relationship between Naomi and Ruth.

When you gather this month as Lutheran Women in Mission, reflect on God’s abundant love for you and how you can reflect His love to others through your words and actions. Many suggestions for living out your faith this month can be found in Sharing God’s Love on Valentine’s Day.
